Old Faithful Thompson Bear Feeding Ground June 28- Trip to Old Faithful to hear Bagley's winter talk. Martindale's lecture attended - no bear most of time, millions of mosquitoes. About 5 grizzlies seen during the evening. Next morning incubator premises very clean. Expected to see 2 grizzly cubs which had been reported but no luck. Walked all morning back in the woods behind me and feeding grounds. Saw not one single bear although bear tracks were abundant all leading uphill away from feeding ground. Covered territory 3 miles back. Bears must be considerably moving night & day, but return evening to feeding station. June 30 4 Hillites seen near Alder Lake. Continuing June 28, 1932 On the morning of June 28th I drove to Trumpeter Lake to get the tent & look over the territory. The swans were on the first lake west of Trumpeter Lake. They were feeding calmly. Arnolds reported seeing them several times in the region & the eggs were broken. One black bear with cub & one brown bear with twin cubs were watched on hold-ups also 1/2 mile west of Lower Station. All bears were seen to eat some grass & shrub tops at intervals. A pair of nesting junco's grew excited, which suggested to me that the bears are a menace to ground nesting birds.
