Yellowstone Solge Flat Mt. Arm and Alder Lake. 264 Tompson June 30, 1932 Today we went by boat from Salce to Flat Mt. Arm of the Lakes. 5 White Pelicans were encountered along the Flat Mt. Arm, and a number of Mergansers, about 160 Canada Geese were seen at the west end of the arm. Several were seen to sputtle away with heads down. One such was found to be molting. 2 Sandhill Cranes were seen at the west end of the arm. A Golden Eagle flew over for some time or was finally attacked by an Osprey. The osprey drove it away. Many Osprey nests are scattered all through this region, which is mostly an old burn of 1914. Young lodgepoles are coming in thickly but an appreciable amount of standing dead timber still exists. A small lake just north of the west end of the arm was visited. The lake is about 1/2 mile long, shallow and ringed with pond lilies. It does not look like a nesting lake. About 30 elk have been seen in the region. One band of 15 cows had 4 calves. Grass is plentiful for them. About 50 Mergansers have been seen during the day.
