26-27 Started the port left the wharf at Rio yesterday at 5 P.M. & dropped anchor again soon near mouth of harbor as boats are allowed to leave until dark or sunset. Day partly cloudy hot, & almost calm. No animl life seen. (27) Weather considerable the same, no land in sight. (28) Reached Bahia at 7 P.M. & dropped anchor for night. Weather rainy hot. So we left again at 9 A.M. my passengers went ashore. From the anchorage the town could be well seen, it consisted of alone part lining the beach & an upper residence part on the bluff with elevators & winding roads
