Saga of the 2nd ♀ (=3rd ♀!)
This is prompted by the discovery of ♀1408 feeding
at the Al nest, while no sign of ♀1631 ♂ appears
forthcoming. The first problem is that the bands of
the 2 birds are similar (in pattern at least), the second
that ♀1408, was a Black Oak nestling from 1987, ♂ was
recorded as a ♂ prior to "his" disappearance from that
group in late Dec. 1987. [Turns out that Connie recorded her as
a ♀; someone screwed up putting this info into the computer!]
Current version of ♀1631's history: Born at Black Oak
in 1988, moved to Al in March 1989, joining along with ♀1212.
Current version of ♀1408's history: Born at Black Oak
in 1987, disappeared in Dec. 1987±1 month.
Current version of ♀1212's history: Born at Black Oak
in 1986, moved to SOBO, returned to Black Oak, eventually
moving to Al in March 1989.
Observational record: These ♀♀ apparently moved to Al in a
Power Struggle in March 1989; I need to look at Stanback's
notes for this. They didn't nest in 1989 and I doubt we
ever had a very good census. On 2 Nov '89 Donna saw
a "♀ Or/M." who she recorded as ♀1631 (but was more likely ♀1408.
However! On 8 Dec '89 she saw a "♀ R-O(n)/" with an injured
left foot: apparently ♀1631 after all. On 11 Jan '90 she
again saw ♀1408 (recorded as "♀ M/or-" and "♀ BP/" without
an injured foot). Hence! It would appear as though
all 3 ♀♀ were here Nov '89-Jan 90 at least.
