1990 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus 4 Arnold ! H N H R 13 May 1050. Set up to do a nestwatch, incidently shooting for δ1026 or the mystery ♀. 1310. Caught the mystery ♀, who is still a mystery (ie. not on the field list) even with her bands in the hand. 1330. Back to give a go for δ1026. 1600. Nobody's feeding, and it would seem as though I have to give up. 1740. Mystery ♀ is: 91408, a 1987 Black Oak baby! See Back for synopsis.... *Group Update* ♀1631. Last seen by Donna on 8 Dec '89 (with an injured foot). Was recorded by Mike on 24 Feb '90 (seen reasonably well!) is March±2wks 91408. Apparently moved here, most likely with the other 2 ♀♀ in March 1989. She was recorded as having disappeared from Black Oak in Dec '87, but(!) was seen by Jane Kidd there on 26 July '88, and again (maybe) on 16 Aug. '88, and yet again on 13 Sept. '88. In short, she was missed by Connie early in '88 (maybe out foraging?) but basically appears to have been at Black Oak until the move to Al in March '89. See back of this Page 17 May Ambushed the nest this evening after banding the 5 babies and caught δ1026!!! Woopee!! 2 June 1445. Bird at the traditional nest hole - a 2nd nest maybe?? 1510. Well, maybe not, but lots of acorns left here. 23 June 1445. 2 birds at a hole high in the skinny VD by the road. This, I think, is a 2nd nest, most unfortunately.
