1989 1990 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus BigTree HNHR 13 June 81234 over at LA2. See LA2 notes. He was eating an acorn in the granary. 20 June While trying to see LA2 birds in the Top Tree I seem to have come across j1715 from here trying to beg off one of The LA2 88. See my LA2 notes. 25 June See LA2 notes. 81234 over at LA2 regularly; I think he's back there. Also I saw j1716 in the Top Tree! 26 June 1730. Saw ① j R-won) 1717, ②♀ wh-bik/M #1565, and ③♀? yel/bk #1319? 1990 11 January 1015. Found no sign of any stored acorns in the nest tree, where there are a few holes at least. My guess is that the group here is gone, at least for the winter. (I did look around some, and found no sign of stores elsewhere.) 2 April 1015. No birds in evidence here. 5 April 1055. 9 here along with some chasing. 22 April 81234 looking at home over at LA2; perhaps he has moved back there? 27 April 1145. 2 birds, a ♂ and ♀ M/(cn) #1319 in the nest tree. This group apparently lives after all! 23 May Indeed they do: flushed a bird from last year's nest hole - young babies calling inside! 24 May 1515. Watching. 1545. ♀ M/(6-w/cn) #1319. 1600. Got to quit. Checked nest: 3 babies; biggest weighs 30g (~6 lb) 2 June 1605. Watching; trying for ♂? 19' or (by any chance) a ♂? 1720. Quitting. Going to bleed the kids. 1730. Still 3 babies:
