11 NOVEMBER 64
The gear was set up on the
Helideck at 0830 hrs. however
was dismantled twice soon after
due to rain squalls.
No birds were photographed
until after 1500 hrs. though the
equipment was in constant
attendance. Rain squalls in the
area brought in several birds
and 150 feet (Masked Booby), 40 feet
(Sooty Tern - 4-, silhouettes) and 50 feet
(White-tailed Tropicbird) were shot.
A total footage of 900+ has now
been exposed. In a good bird
month and mild, calm seas, a
total (without exaggeration) of 1000
feet could be had at this
stage of the cruise. I would estimate
that in April, May, June & July a
good coverage could be made of
the majority of the birds in the
area.
For the remainder of this
cruise photographic operations will
depend on the sea conditions.
Perhaps footage can be made
from the flying bridge.
