solven at the Fault The Mountain Rapid The evening was cloudy Threatening rain. Tuesday Aug 16. Left about 7 o'clock and after touch up to the main part of the Mountain Rap Crossed to the left bank landing at the upper end of a limestone cliff which rises abruptly from the water. If the boats does not reach the point they are swept down for a long distance and may even have to remain on the river. All the boats fortunately reached the desired point though one The cork Boat - was stuck for some time on a rock in Mud stream a short distance above the Mountain Rapid seems a bruit several miles long and a great mass of color from the for ward. I reached the Carcouse Rapid about 1 o'clock here the loads and 4 lee portaged as morn occupied all the afternoon. I make ashore excursion to observe some Birds, Zen sage but Rams (dark grunts) Amelanchier at the mountain shrubs
