Mr encamped a short Distance above the Carnice Rapid. Monday Aug 17. There night was clear and Calm, and a very Horn fell MrMode an early start and soon reached the Stony Rap here we crossed to the right bank. We had a good deal of Troublesome Current this, and then came to the Crooked Rapid, which is almost Continuous with the Stony Rapid. At the Crooked Rapid, the current was down up and we soon passed up it. ahead of the men I killed a Golden Eagle with a stone. It had caught and devoured a woodchuck (Arctomys). We kept on until near sunset. One of the men killed a small deer a short distance above the Crooked Rapid. Thursday Aug 18. Made an early start and kept on up the river. Crossed the long and middle Raps on the right bank and crossed to the left bank just below the bar- Rapid where we selected camping a short distance above it.
