142 Sat Nov. 13 This was the day of our ascent of Kima Balm (Pamjah, the native name) We got off at 7.30 and at the "Sacrificial Rock" the Chaplain fired a salute of 1 gun, the other shell would not go; soon we came to the Granite Cof; some of it very steep and smooth but later we followed the seams in the rocks. Had some fine views of the valley below. Stopped to collect along the way and I found a buttercup in bloom. When we came up through Lewis Dally ? we found it very cold and some what fog- gy and the natives, Sumfah, Lamah Bayay and 4 coolies sat down to consult. Lamah with the lead and at a little lake near the base of Lewis Peak we found a little sheltered nook and had our lunch of crackers, cheese and chocolate. Lamah again took its lead and we climbed to the top of Lewis Peak collecting some ferns, and almost every thing that grew; by the way. On a cairn at the peak we found
