Sun. July 12 (w/?)
Jazz with a bill protruding from one end.
The rest of the head was difficult to
make out unless the down was brushed
back. 642-01139 was found to be mated to
642-01133; 642-01109 was mated to 642-01132.
3 birds were banded.
Also change-over took place this evening
on the nest along the south bank of the
concourse, east of the signal building (nest
with one bird banded as 642-01138). It will
now be watched for the next change-over time.
Mon. July 13
Johnston Island — Red-Tailed Tropicbird —
17 nests were found today a Johnston;
9 of these had eggs; 8 were with
young birds. 3 of the young were less
than 10 days of age, 1 was from 10-20
days old, 2 were better than 21 days old,
+ 2 were nearly fledged. The two that
were near fledging age were banded;
color marked with orange leg streamers,+
painted with a blue line across the breast.
