1895 but one appear to be males & evidence of sex was doubtful in all. The supposed female has a longer forked tail & lower mandible of bee very slightly shorter than that of the other four, & its plumage on back is more pure color. Legs fleshy yellow like one of others. It had not molted so far as other four, so I could not tell by 2d. primaries in wings whether 1st or 2d was the longer as the 2d. primaries were 3/4 grown. 1st primary in other four longer than 2d. primary, which may be the rule with all Terns as I have not looked up reference. Sept 15. Shot a M. Sav. Spar. on Waterside dike & dog spoilt him. Dog caught a wing-tipped Sandpiper with brown back & mud-green legs. Shot a Forster's Tern in fine plumage & hit the partner: the others roosting & catching fish alternately
