B.-h. Grosbeaks, or R.b. Thrushes. Saw big flock Blackbirds in meadow. Aug 26 Saw a few dark plum- aged, red-billed, white-rumped, white-tail-tipped gulls in S.F.bay. One was swimming in front of slip with several flesh-colored billed gull? Gulls of light plum- age, which would be rather tame for this generally shy bird. Saw a very large, rather red-billed Gull with the black wing tips which I took for Gal. Gull. A sandpiper of some variety, about size of Red- backed was swimming near by (4:30 p.m.) As 1/2 way across another seemed to fly from under the bows, and lit to one side a few feet away and swam a short distance and flew further and lit.
