Saw a Duitsball drake decoy "41" to a grebe on water. Dec.23 a [illegible] hawk on old apricot. Chased him from tree to tree & lost him. He flew past in clearing between tennis oaks row oak & my shell missed fire. I got 3 quail with rifle in F.Y. express, Dec.30. Shot a [illegible] hawk from cypress over rose fumes. Was well hid by a " spray butt choke bbl. got him. (made shile dan.) 1jay +2 quail +1 dog bougrange. (all shots counted) 1895 Jan.1. while cutting wood by shed, heard a loud note & saw a W. Winter Wren in wood pile. Very loud note for size of bird. Has a slight white shreak over eye like Vigor's but a shorter tail & is rusty brown instead of chocolate. Saw one on Xmas day in woodpile in brush lot. Pair of Annas around my arbutolon bush for over a year & noticed Ark. Goldy. well into Dec. in same bush on rainy days.
