15 Thangot my gun & mule cart & lost a lark near rear ave 100ft away. 2d shot dropped, 1 on wing about 80yds off, 1 shot had struck back of head. 3d " missed far off on wing. 4th, on wing, broke both legs (lost bird), 5th on " missed. 6th a robin with back toward me on ground 100ft away (lost him). 7th varied on lawn in ash tree got lots leaves & no bird, though not more than 30 ft. off. Disgusted. Saw a male Gardner's woodpecker. Seems to be nearly black on back. Robins are commencing to arrive but more varied birds @ present. Sunny day. 12/10 used #4's & 8's & got good results- bullets with former only. 1st. 19. in bets, 2d+3d lost 2 on wing. At 4th 2 larks on wing 6th 1 on tree all in bets. 7th 1 varied by bowl alley 8th+9th lost 2 varied birds N.W. of Tennis. 10th 1 in bets 1 lark flicker muffed
