It stood upon the rabbit and two morsels of food loose with its bill by pulling or jerking backwards. Later in the day a Turkey Vulture was noticed feeding from the same tid bit. Horder was able to approach only within about 50 yards of this bird before it took flight. Feb-27-1904. A large Owl seen a day or two ago perched upon a post near a small slough not far from town. I think it was a Short-eared Owl although I have never seen this species at shot range but am con- fident that it is found here. This owl had a dark stripe just back and at the posterior edge of the operculum. General color brownish with lighter mark- ings on some of the feathers. Was unable to get a distinct idea of the markings.
