Royal & Common Terns - etc. including Shearwaters, Murres Aukslets, Murrelets - etc. I was told that the strange dark colored birds I have often seen along the coast were Shearwaters - Mr. Clark - the Taxidermist also said that he had found 3 kinds of Nutatches Apr. 17. Eagle seen today at short range (about 30 yards) seated upon the ground eating a dead jack rabbit. Several whitish or light colored areas were noticed especially the scapulars and wing coverts and nearly all of the tail - the terminal portion of the latter being black. The bird did not appear to me to be much larger than an ordinary Red-tail (except when flying) but doubtless at close range I would have noticed a con- siderable difference.
