some flying over as I sit here writing. I have seen 30 or 40 birds today. May 6. Late this afternoon I dis- covered a band of 40 or 50 Curlew resting on the plowed ground 200 or 300 yards from me. They were all facing the wind and were apparently motionless. Ten or fifteen minutes later I looked to find them and I failed to find out how or where. May 11. About 20 Curlew seen today I think. Some in bands, others in ones, twos, and threes. A flock alighted in the field where I am working. My halloing at the horses, scared all but three away very quickly. These remained until I was within gunshot and then they left. May 24-25-26-27. Russet-backed Thrushes
