the sickle bill of this species, so they were probably some other kinder kinds for I thought I could distinguish two kinds of birds. Their note resembled a Curlew's greatly. I saw two flocks of 30 or 40 birds (or perhaps the same flock twice) and several times single birds or pairs. Saw them again this evening after it was too dark to distin- guish them. May 5. A band of Curlew (genuine article) of a dozen or more alight- ed in my field and allowed three to approach within gun shot before flying. The first time they flew a short distance and alighted again and upon being disturb- ed left the vicinity. May 8. Several bands of Curlew seen today. one of 14 or 15. I can hear
