Zenaidura carolinensis. (Mourning Dove.) The day before yesterday one was heard cooing, making a very mournful cry. To-day my mother reports that one cooed considerably this afternoon. Mar. 17, 1908. One of the birds cooes considerably every day, being particularly in evidence in the early morn- ing. No signs whatever of a nest. Both birds sit around all day, occasionally getting on the ground. The female liked to lie in the sun. When on the ground the male often runs about rather wildly while the female is eating. April 12, 1908. I placed these two birds in the large aviary to-day with the rest of my birds. They seemed quite delighted, feeding in the short grass as did also the Barbary Turtle Doves. April 19, 1908. To-day I heard the smaller of the two birds coo. It was the one I had thought was a female. May 25, 1908. Coo often in the middle of the night; especially in moon- light.
