Zenaidura carolinensis. (Mourning Dove.)
Feb. 15, 1908.
Bought two of A. C. Robison and Leo. These I
placed in a small summer house. Said to be
male and female respectively. Cost $2.50. No. 20821
Mar. 1, 1908.
The hen, which was minus a tail when
bought, now has one about an inch long. The
growth is very fast, a change being seen every day.
Mar. 4, 1908.
The cock bird often flies down to the floor
of the summer house, where they are con-
fined, and runs about for a minute or so
and then flies back to the perch. During
the past three or four days an occasional
short staccato "kuk" has been heard, ap-
parently from the male, which I take to be
the larger of the two birds. Food: Equal
proportions of wheat, dried bread crumbs,
yellow cornmeal, and mixed bird seed mixed
together. I gave them no fresh water this
morning, although I usually do so.
