Nettium carolinense Changes in Plumage. Dec. 13, 1908. Of this species The two drakes which I now possess are in winter plumage, brown and green heads. The duck, also, seems to be in customary plumage. One which died three or four days ago had a yellowish body color which the present bird does not have; I rather suspect it was due to immaturity February 28, 1908. Of the four drakes of this species which I now possess, two are in high feather. The other two are also, save for some of the feathers on the back and shoulders which are old. March 13, 1909. All four of my drakes now appear to be in perfect feather. May 15, 1909. The drakes have another call, more like the "peeping" of a chicken. When this is made the head is held very close to the body, giving the bird a very hunched-up appearance; the bill is tilted up- wards slightly.
