Alameda to and from San Francisco, bal.
Conditions:- Northerly wind; cool; Partly overcast. Usual time.
This morning the birds were all at a good
distance from the mole as usual, on the water.
Saw two or three moderate-sized flocks of ducks
on the water; they were, however, not as large as
those seen last week. The birds, ducks and
grebes, close to the mole usually dive as the
trains pass.
Drove inside the steamer going to the city.
In the evening I caught the 5:10 steamer
home, it being quite light at that time now.
Larus californicus and Larus glaucescens followed
the steamer in considerable numbers, flying a-
round it and over it as usual. Drove on the af-
ter deck, going inside when off Goat Island.
Along the mole I noticed only an occasional
bird; it was plenty light enough to see.
Tide well in.
