Passer domesticus. common as usual. Males
appear fairly common, as well as females.
Astragalus. Noted three or in bush in
yard on Central Avenue. I was first attracted by
their peculiar little call.
Euphagus cyanoccephalus. I did not notice
any on wires on Central Avenue in usual
place. I saw two, however, feeding on grassy
spot close to the sidewalk; they were very tame,
allowing me to come within eight or nine feet of
them. One was minus a foot, but got about
with little difficulty.
Aphelocoma californica. Two.
Haywards, b.al.
conditions:- Warm; NE wind; clear. Middle of day.
At Mr. Emerson's I saw the following:-
Trochilus anna. Several. Five adult males
seen; feeding in alces; & one sitting in peppertree.
One or two Empidonax.
Munius polyglottos. One immature one. Quite
tame; was in rose bush close to window where we
were sitting.
Passer domesticus. Several in bushes.
Gonotrichia leucophrys. One.
On the return trip to Alameda in the af
ternoon, I saw a few gulls in the canal at Park
Street Bridge; one was noted as an adult Larus
californicus.
