Dec. 4, 1907.
Alameda to San Francisco, cal.
Conditions: - Moderate temperature; strong south
wind; overcast; rained just as we reached San
Francisco; sea somewhat rough; about 8:00 A.M.
Along the mile I saw two or three Clangula clangula and one Oidemia deglandi, the
latter species was flying along the mile, head-
ing a little away from it, felt being blown
sidewise by the wind. I saw one Clangula
clangula flying to windward. All of these
ducks were quite a distance from the mile,
being well out of shot gun range.
Several Larus glaucus (mostly immature)
and one Larus californicus (adult) were observed
following the boat after we left Alameda mile.
There were a great many Larus glaucus
(mostly immature) on the piles and sheds on the
San Francisco side. Very tame as usual.
Yesterday morning I saw an adult Larus
occidentalis, also a lot flying northward high
in the air, the latter being on the Alameda side.
