104. September 12, 1907. Alameda to and from San Francisco, Cal. Conditions; - Strong NW wind; overcast in the morning; moderate temperature. I saw an Ardea herodias and a small hawk flying over the marshy west of First Street this morning. At the waters edge were some hundreds of gulls this morning and this evening at low tide near the roundhouse. Apparently they were Larus californicus. In the evening there were a good great many gulls SW of Goat Island but at a long dis- tance from the steamer. They were in a large flock flying very close to the water. September 13, 1907.
