San Francisco to Alameda, bal.
Conditions:- NW wind; moderate temperature;
clear; about 6:00 P.M.
Off Goat Island I saw a small flock of
mostly immature gulls and one Stercorarius
pomarinus hovering over the water. After a
minute the jaeger flew off to the South and
the gulls dispersed as the steamer approached.
On the sand exposed near the roundhouse
were a great many gulls, apparently mostly adult Larus californicus.
