coming up the coast into Monterey Bay. They were strung out in a long line close to the water and probably numbered 20 to a flock. Calidris arenaria. One in the street near the RR dept at Pacific Grove was caught by a small boy. It probably struck a wire last night; Beck said he heard some passing over. Along the shore between Pacific Grove and Monterey I saw a few gulls and cormorants on the rocks and buoys. Between Del Monte and Castroville I noted three or four small ponds or lakes full of tules. In one I noted several Eubulida americana (?). In the marshes above Castroville I noted several some sandpipers and one Numenius hudsoni- us. On a fence beside the Pajaro River below the town of that name I saw a Zenaidura mac- roura. It sat motionless on the top rail of the fence as the train passed within a few yards. Near Gilroy. I noted a bathartes aura soaring about on motionless wings. Falco sparverius
