Two or three Larus heermanni were seen. Many of the
adult Larus californicus have streaked heads.
Near Alameda Mole this evening several gulls
passed which looked like adult Larus delawarensis.
Throw out of the slip flew an adult Larus heermanni -
and an immature Larus californicus
as the boat entered. Standing on a pile
was an adult Larus occidentalis which flew
upon the close approach of the steamer. One
or two were seen on the San Francisco side
this evening along with a number of Larus
californicus about the ferry slip.
September 14, 1907.
Alameda to San Francisco, cal.
Conditions:- Moderate temperature; forenoon about
8:00; overcast; now wind & speak of.
Near the roundhouse the tide had gone out
just far enough to leave a strip of beach exposed,
on which were a hundred or two Larus cali-
ifornicus (nearly all adult). I noted one adult
Larus occidentalis, several Symphennia semipalmata, and two curlew or godwit. Many of the
birds flew up as the train passed, as they were quite
close to the track. Some in shallow water, standing.
