98. Puffinus griseus. Later one or two were seen alone on Carmel Bay. Their flight resembles that of Puffinus obscurus; they kept close to the water. Larus heermanni. Several, some immature, one or two adult. Phalacrocorax penicillatus. One on the edge of the flock of shearwaters and a few on the rocks at islets in the north end of the bay. The flock of Puffinus griseus was in the bay Monterey Bay, close to the town of that name, in the morning before coming into Carmel Bay. They were said to be after sardines. After leaving Carmel Bay they returned again to Monterey Bay. Dafila acuta. When offshore always a flock of a dozen passed us. Oidemia. Quite a few just outside of breakers at beach in front of town. Limosa fedoa. Seared up a flock of a dozen on the beach back from the water. A Numenius hudsonicus tailed after them. Cathartes aura. Two circling about near Mission San Carlos.
