99. Jay. Noted one or two in the pine trees. Suppose it was Aphelocoma californica although I was not close enough to distinguish. Junco hyemalis. I noticed two or three flocks of twenty or thirty feeding on the ground. They flew up into the bushes when approached. September 9, 1907. Pacific Grove, Monterey Co., Cal. to 10 miles West. Conditions: - Overcast; moderate temperature; NW wind coming up about 10 o'clock A.M. We went out about 6 o'clock A.M. Wria troile. Two or three young ones close in shore in the afternoon. Cepphus columba. One black one in the morning. Brachyramphus hypoleucus. Three or four together. Brachyramphus marmaratus (?) One or two. Stercorarius pomarinus. Quite a few all the way out. None were in dark phase. Mostly nearly adult birds showing some barring, however. Flying singly and high and decoying with 2 or 3 exceptions to birds thrown into the air.
