September 7, 1907.
On the way to barmel, Monterey County, Cal.
this afternoon, I noted a Falco sparverius
wrie beside the county road near Millbrae, San
Mateo Co., Cal. Near San Mateo I saw three-
naidura macroura flying, and later saw
two or three flying near Pajaro, San Benito Co.
One or two Andean heronides by the Pajaro River near tidewater.
September 8, 1907.
barmel, Monterey Co., Cal.
Conditions:- Moderate temperature; (W) wind; over-
cast all day.
Grebe. I saw in a cove on the north side of the
bay while out in a launch in the morning. It was
either an Aechmophorus occidentalis or a Colymbus
holboelli; I am inclined to think the latter.
Gulls. I noticed a number of birds on the kelp,
apparently of this species order. Several adult
and immature Larus occidentalis were seen, one
of the former being observed sitting on top of
rock a short distance offshore. Other unidentified young gull
Ouffinus griseus. A little before 10 A.M. they
began coming southward in an immense black
stream, passing quite close to Pescadero Point.
