adults were seen among them. Several were
heard to utter short croaks while poising over
the water. I watched several pick up bits of
floating food, which was done with just the
lower parts of their toes dipping in the water,
and not their plumage.
A flock of twenty or thirty ducks were
observed flying NW, passing between Long
Wharf and Goat Island; They were quite
low over the water.
When the train was just pulling out of the
mole this evening a large flock (300 or 400) of
gulls arose from sand at the end of the seawall
north of Oakland Creek and began circling about,
many working upwards.
