I watched several pick up bits of floating food, which was done with just the lower parts of their toes dipping in the water, and not their plumage. A flock of twenty or thirty ducks were observed flying NW, passing between Long Wharf and Goat Island; They were quite low over the water. When the train was just pulling out of the mole this evening a large flock (300 or 400) of gulls arose from sand at the end of the seawall north of Oakland Creek and began circling about, many working upwards. Apr. 26, 1907. Alameda to and from San Francisco, Cal. Conditions: - Moderate temperature; westerly wind; rather overcast.
