Alameda to and from San Francisco, cal.
Conditions: - Cool; westerly wind; overcast.
A few ducks were noted together on the water
in the light near the roundhouse this morning.
They were at too great a distance to determine

At the Alameda Wharf this morning there were
ten or a dozen gulls (Larus glaucescens) on the piles.

In the evening Larus glaucescens (immature), Larus californicus (mostly adult), and
Larus philadelphia (nearly all black-headed)
were abundant. The two former species
were following the steamers abundantly in
the usually manner. Many were also seen
mounting up into the air.
There were a considerable number of
Larus philadelphia feeding close to the San
Francisco ferry slip. One or two immature birds
with banded tails, and one or two white-headed
