North of 16th St. Station, Oakland a great many
Larus philadelphia and a great number of sand-
pipers were observed feeding in some shallow
ponds and sloughs which were not affected
by the tide, owing to the railroad embankment
cutting them off.
At Antioch one or two gulls, large gulls were
noted - high tide. A Falco sparverius and,
a Cathartes aura were seen flying over the
rivers. Several Hirundo erythrogaster were
observed flying about the river banks and
two were sitting on the gig of the sch. "Academy."
A Lanius ludovicianus was observed at the
S.P. Co. Station.
Between Antioch and Cornwall a large
dark hawk was observed soaring about over the lowlands, both going and
coming. Three Fulica americana were noted
swimming about a pond beside the track
and apparently feeding, as they kept dipping
their bills into the water as they moved along.
