Alameda, Cal. to and from San Francisco, Cal.
7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. and 5:15 P.M. to 5:40 P.M.
Conditions:- Overcast; much warmer than yesterday; north
wind in morning east wind in evening.
Ducks were common along the mole. As the steamer
was leaving a few cormorants passed to the south. I also saw
a few ducks and loons going in the same direction. One loon
was seen passing to the south. Larus glaucuscens was abundant.
As usual the flagpoles were occupied most of the time. I
saw one Larus argentatus, a young bird. Its breast had
large patches of white intermingled with the darker markings
characteristic of young birds. Larus californicus, three
or four. Larus canus or Larus brachyrhynchus common
west of Goat Island.
In the evening the same remarks apply, except for Larus
argentatus. One grebe and two ducks were seen off Goat Island. Two ducks were seen along the mole.
