98. Passer domesticus. There were a few gulls flying along near the shore at 5th St. They were headed west. I saw three cormorants fly across the point near W. Alameda Station. Near the roundhouse I saw two or three flocks of sandpipers and about 200 gulls. I counted 18 grebes along the mole. I saw 2 cormorants on the water at the mole. Off Goat Island I saw three grebes; also a cormorant flying south. Larus delawarensis was very common. Larus californicus was not as much as. A great many of both species followed the steamer across. San Francisco to Alameda, Cal. Conditions: - 3:15 to 5:45 P.M. Strong west wind; clear; moderate temperature. Larus delawarensis and Larus californicus were abundant. I saw one Larus heermanni off the water front. I saw a jaeger south of Goat Island. Near the roundhouse the only birds present were 6 Ardea herodias in the shallow water left by the tide. Oct. 12, 1904 Alameda to San Francisco, Cal. Conditions: - 7:00 to 8:05 A.M. clear; rather cool; light west wind. I saw three Zonotrichia leucophrys in the back yard this morning. Passer domesticus was very common. Near the roundhouse there were several small flocks of sand- pipers on the mud. There were 200 or 300 gulls on the beach and in the shallow water. I saw one grebe on the water near the mole. I did not see many gulls on the bay until I got near Goat Island as I rode on the front of
