San Francisco to Alameda Mole, bal.
conditions:- 5:15 P.M. to 5:35 P.M. Rather overcast; cool; west wind.
I saw a few Larus occidentalis and Larus californicus during
the trip across. The scarcity of Larus heermanni is noticeable.
Aug. 9, 1904.
Alameda to San Francisco, bal.
conditions:- 7:00 a. m. to 8:00 A. M. Overcast; cool; west wind.
I saw a good many Passer domesticus along the route as
far as West Alameda Station. Here in the vegetable gardens
I noted a few Euphagus cyanocephalus.
In the slough on the west side of the track near the
roundhouse I saw a few large shore birds.
The beach along the mole was lined with gulls;— I dis-
tinguished Larus occidentalis. A few large shore birds
and two Ardeas herodias in the water, added to the army
of birds.
On the bay I saw a few Larus occidentalis, Larus cali-
ifornicus, and Larus heermanni.

Larus occidentalis, Larus californicus, and Larus heer-
manni occurred quite frequently during the entire trip.
The last-named species was particularly abundant.
Storendezvous seems to be off Goat Island, although I
saw individuals at both ends of the route. On the south
side of Goat Island there were a few gulls on the water.
A flock of about ten Uria atra flew swiftly by the is-
land headed seawards. To the north of Oakland Creek
