45. Melospiza cinerea. One or two. On Bay { Larus occidentalis. Common. " california. A few. San Francisco to Alameda, cal. Conditions: - 5:15 P.M. to 5:35 P.M. to clear; moderate temperature; west wind. I noted a few Larus occidentalis and Larus californicus on the trip across. Aug. 7, 1904. Alameda, cal. Conditions: - clear until evening, then overcast; moderate temperature. West wind from about noon on. I noted the following birds in the yard during the day. Aphelocoma californica. A pair. Carpodacus mexicanus. Common. Dendroica melanocephala. Three or four. Passer domesticus. Common. Hummingbirds. Two or three. We caught the first three species all in the act of destroying fruit on pear trees. Aug 8, 1906. Alameda to San Francisco, cal. Conditions: - 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. Overcast; cool; west wind. I saw quite a few Passer domesticus on my way to the train. I noted two or three young birds on a fence. Along the strip of sand near the roundhouse I saw a few large shore birds. There also there was a considerable flock of gulls, principally Larus occidentalis.
