one B.B. Plover and 4 Shovelers.
Jan. 28. Raining again. Wrentits very active.
Jan. 21. Bellevue showers I took a walk
into Hamilton Canyon. Wrentits - male singing
female answering. Noticed three pairs. A male
Anna Hummingbird was on the electric wire as
usual. A Thrasher was singing continuously.
A Fox Sparrow seen eating seeds of Artemisia
California. He was picking at stems near
the ground that looked absolutely dead.
Jan. 24. The Brown Towhee which was minus
all tail feathers on Jan. 9 has feathers
a little over an inch long. Looks like
a ruffle. Still raining.
Jan. 25. Raining. Not cold.
Jan. 26. Clearing. James and I drove via Mark Creek Rd.
& Border Highway as far as Middle Bridge toward
Stockton. Much water everywhere. 8 and 12-15 A.M.
Egrets, many costs, Pintails, Canada & Snow Geese.
Jan. 27. Clear with gusty N.W. wind.
Jan. 28. Clear and warmer. A Thrasher was
singing frequently during the day, a Song
Sparrow at dawn and a Hutton Vireo in
the middle of the day.
Jan. 29. The 'Lady Birds' tried to go to Stockton
but the tide fog was so dense that we turned
back and spent most of the time at March
Creek. One stop on the Border Highway
witnessed a Bittern very near the road. It stood
like a stick for some time, then crossed
a channel and appeared under a pile of
tiles & cattails on the other side. The
