Apr.3. Rain.
Apr. 4. Clean. Lutescent Warbler is the first
bird to sing each morning. So far as I
have been able to discover it seems to be the
only bird nesting near the house toward the
east. A song sparrow sings occasionally
but I see no signs of its nesting verynear.
The House Wren sings near the box occasionally.
Apr.6. At The Niles Nursery Mockingbirds and
Gambel Sparrows were singing. There
were two Mockingbirds within hearing,
perhaps more. Gambels song: - 00 - 2 = .
Balden Creek: Cassin, Vireo and Black-
throated Gray Warbler singing - not heard
two weeks ago. Warbling Vireo and Paleated
Warblers with mates and probably nest.
building.- at least they were seen near
the same spot over and over again. Total.
River very high due to heavy rains Mar. 29-31. 78+ in.
April 7. At Mountain View Marsh - Tide right.
Many birds visible and when a hawk flew
over great flocks rose expeditly.
Bk. Clover, 100s - many in full plumage,
one very spotted, some in winter plumage.
I saw no Long-billed Curlews. Hudsonian
Curlews very abundant - One held its
head straight up and called continuously.
Willets less abundant than usual; Lesser
Yellowlegs 2 - (seen very near a Willet
and emphatically smaller.) (over)
