Apr.3. Rain. Apr. 4. Clean. Lutescent Warbler is the first bird to sing each morning. So far as I have been able to discover it seems to be the only bird nesting near the house toward the east. A song sparrow sings occasionally but I see no signs of its nesting verynear. The House Wren sings near the box occasionally. Apr.6. At The Niles Nursery Mockingbirds and Gambel Sparrows were singing. There were two Mockingbirds within hearing, perhaps more. Gambels song: - 00 - 2 = . Balden Creek: Cassin, Vireo and Black- throated Gray Warbler singing - not heard two weeks ago. Warbling Vireo and Paleated Warblers with mates and probably nest. building.- at least they were seen near the same spot over and over again. Total. River very high due to heavy rains Mar. 29-31. 78+ in. April 7. At Mountain View Marsh - Tide right. Many birds visible and when a hawk flew over great flocks rose expeditly. Bk. Clover, 100s - many in full plumage, one very spotted, some in winter plumage. I saw no Long-billed Curlews. Hudsonian Curlews very abundant - One held its head straight up and called continuously. Willets less abundant than usual; Lesser Yellowlegs 2 - (seen very near a Willet and emphatically smaller.) (over)
