1940. Apr. 7. (Cont'd) Mt. View Marsh. Least Sandpipers - abundant; Western S.- abundant; Redbacks abundant and many with black bellies; Long-tailed Dow- ilcher, 12-15; Godwits 15-20; Avocets 3, single and separated; Cootails - a few (3-6) Dumbarton Bridge: Gared Grebes, five in one Group, three in another; Shovelers at: Abundant at spots. H. Curlew, Willet, Redb. Sandpiper. Godwit; Avocets 8-10; Bonaparte Gulls with Black heads on easternmost salt pool north of the road; Terns 4 (Forster ?) Cliff Swallows abr., a few Bank Swallows. East of the bridge - linnets, pipits abr.), one Horned Lark heard. Birds very few as compared with two weeks ago - except H. Curlew which I seldom see here. April 8' The Allen Hummingbird Group went to Alum Rock Park. Cloudy - Warm. Along the way we saw Brewer Blackbirds, Redwings, Shrikes, Crow (near Berry area), Meadowlarks, Linnets. When we reached the Creek from Alum Rock Canyon we stopped near an old farm house where we found the House Wren, a Mockingbird (?), W. Bluebird, Chipping Sparrow, Cedar Waxwings and the first Grosbeak of the season. A flock of Gable Sparrows - very gray and singing. Also many Hb. Goldfinches, Linnets, Purple Finch and a Sparrow Hawk and Flicker and Mourning Dove,
