Apr. 2. Cloudy, cold S.W. wind. Bird trips up
Strawberry Canyon. Birds abundant
and many songs; Redtail, Quail, large flock;
Black Phoebe (spring calls - near dairy
and later near swimming pool); Western
Flycatcher (not common yet); Bushtits
(pairs only); Titmouse (singing); Newlet
(singing); Waggon Wren (only one heard singing;
House Wren (one pair at 49 Canyon Rd. male
singing); Hermit Thrush - several seen,
one singing at head of canyon near St. Creek;
Robins, R. Knight (only one heard); W. Vireo,
several heard, one seen; Lutescent Warbler
spaced for nesting, males in full song;
Audubon Warbler - feeding in oats, Singing;
Troused W. (one heard once); Tolumia - south
of Swimming pool - seen and song heard;
Pileolated Warbler - several singing, esp
near St. Creek; Purple Finches - three at
the top of pine tree, others singing in oats;
Luniet - one flying over; Gb. Goldfinch
one singing near stadium; Siskins, seven
at small groups flying over; juncos
one flock; Brown & Spotted Towhees as
usual; Fox Sparrow - one; G. Sparrow
singing; Song Sparrow - singing -
many spaced for nesting.
(Six cats near 51 Canyon Rd. - four
half grown, high in the oaks
(No thrasher heard)
