1940 Mar. 6,7. Warm. Songs: Thrasher (continuous - only one within hearing and that one at some distance); Warm-tet (frequent); Lutescent Wurble (occasional); Junco (flocks); Song Sparrow (spaced for nesting) A pair of Bushtits come to the pool. A group of 6-8 Alid. Warblers near the house. (Duc.) Mar. 9. Near Alvarado in the rain pools we saw two Yellowlegs and many Pintail Ducks Chilly north wind. Boulder Creek. Breezy. Mar. 10. Boulder Creek. Light showers. Cool. Breezy Robins, Varied Thrushes, 1 Hermit Thrush, 1 Fox Sparrow, Brown-tailed Warblers, Chestradees (flock), Junco - single, near shrubbery. Mt. View Merle. 3 p.m. Tide high 4.9 ft. Clear, cold north wind. Flocks of birds in flight over the water, gleaming white on the breast. As they came near or I could see black patches under the wings - Black-bellied Plover. (Only had been seen with some black on the d belly - Travers the northeast Curlew, both Hydrocanis & Long billed became quite plentiful - perhaps 25 Lv. 20 Mud.; 15 Godwits, very few Willets. Ducks - Canvas-backs (30±) and 1 W.W. Scoter. Tide too high for feeding. Dumbarton Bridge - 3:30 p.m. Salt pools very rough in wind. Two large groups of Eared Grebes (300±), could not find the alcove.
