Spotted Towhee; Brown Thrasher, alb., Juncoes, White-crowned Sparrow, 4-c. Sparrow, Song Sparrows The goldfinches were feeding on dandelion seeds. Some were gray with two whitening bars and a small patch of black both above and below the bill; bill quite light on its sides. But some of the Greenbacks showed black on the chin - possibly stained by food? One S.L.H. Hawk dashed through the trees. 2.2 ap. Mar. 5: Mr. Fletcher's group went to the Aquatic Park. Beautiful weather but heavy fog at first at the pools. Bird List: Pied-billed Grebe 3; one struggling with a fish about 4 inches long - Finally swallowed it, Farallone Cormorants, 15-20. Fishing. S.L. Blue Heron 1 - Lesser Scaup, most alb. 100s, Egret 3 - Willing. Scoter, Surf. S. Caus. Puddy, Red-breasted Merganser 35. Fishing. The double pointed crest showed very plainly when the bird was swallowing a fish. Least Sandpiper 20t; Western 20t; Sanderling 30t; Gulls: Glauconous, Western, Calif., Ring-billed. Bonaparte Some of the Bon. w. black heads - Cypits, a few; Salt Marsh Yellowthroat, singing - W. Savannah Sparrow 20-30; Puget Sd. White Cr., Song Sparrow, Nuttall Sparrow - several singing 24 ap. At 37 Woodwood Rd. Lutecent Warbler singing. (Intermediate plumage of Scoters - Yellow bill, no white patch)
