We had lunch in the edge of Santa Monica
on the ocean front where we sat at at
table outdoors and shed our coats as it was warm
Went into 1632 Virginia Road. Very warm, and
Enny-
Jan. 14. We sat on the terrace or deck
most of the morning enjoying the Brushline
Birds noticed: Mockingbird, Black Phoebe,
Anna Hummingbird, Audubon Warblers,
Savannah Sparrow, Song Sparrow (singing pell)
After dinner(now) we drove on to
Palos Verdes where we spent the night
Jan. 15. Still delightfully warm. Ocean
clean and placid. Birds noticed:
Hermit Thrush, Mockingbird(silent),
Song Sparrow, Audubon Warblers.
After lunch we drove on to Palm
Springs via Long Beach, Anaheim,
Santa Ana Canyon, Corona, Riverside,
Breaumont, Banning. Arrived about
5:30 p.m. Stopped at La Cita.
Jan. 16. I was outside at 7 a.m. sun
just rising, and the rocky hill
behind La Cita, a bright golden brown.
In the low brush, Towhees and Goldfinches
were singing everywhere. The first note
I heard before I got up was that of the
Say Bluebird which was seen later on
the roof. The Black Phoebe was in the
garden too. As I got out into the
desert region, W. Bluebirds appeared.
