many of them in miniature plumage - They seemed to be eating berries (?) in the mesquites and were very abundant; Then I heard a Wren which sang like the Vireo Wren. A little later a Cactus Wren mounted to the dead tip of a tall cleaner shrub and stretching its neck up gave a grunting call note, repeated several times. This neck returned to normal - then he stretched it out again and repeated the same notes again. Next I caught the motion of a bird as small as a Vireo, but with a shorter tail and as it turned Toward me it showed a yellow face so I knew it was a Verdin. In a moment it flew to a very low gray- cleared shrub where it (a female) found a male in brighter plumage. I heard and note. An Anna Hummingbird visited a hummingbird bush with red blossoms Its crown and gorget flashed vivid red in the clear sunshine. Aulakin Hummer has been seen earlier but on a level with the sun which shone directly in my eyes as I looked at it. I saw a Ruby-crowned Kinglet and heard a flicker. I had to return for breakfast at eight but as I left I saw a Desert Sparrow which showed a decided white line above the eye but had a white throat.
