Mar, 15-24. Raining most of the time.
Lutescent Warbler heard occasionally
near the house. On Mar. 24 both the
Fox Sparrows and Hermit Thrush were singing early in the morning. Clearly afternoon.
Mar. 25 N.W. wind. Clear.
Mar. 26 The first clear week-end since Feb. 26
We went to Boulder Creek where we soaked
up the sunshine. A few Cliff Swallows near Mt. Edna
March 27. Early a.m. a Warbling Vireo was
singing and about 10 a.m. a western
Flycatcher began calling. Chickadees in
flocks. Green backed Gobypicids - three flying
high - all with wings buzzing instead
of normal flight. Was it a case of two males
courting one female, The white patches in wings
were very conspicuous as the wings buzzed.
Ideal weather until about 1 p.m. when
it became overcast. Generally overcast
on grey haze and cooler Cedar Watwings in Estely
Mar. 28. Wind from N.W. drove away the fog
and clouds. Bird trip to Oakland Air Port,
Clear with strong cold wind. Tide high.
Lit: Loon (Red Thr. of Pac.?)- one diving
Homed there - one was apparently just
changing & breeding plumage. It
showed red on neck and sides of body.
Neck shorter and thinner than Eared Grebe.
Eared Grebe - several seen - all in water ph.
Farallone Cormorant - a large flock pishing -
St. Blue Heron: One seen
