1938 March 14. Birds seen between our house and the Campgrounds by way of the Stadium Rim- (Sharp-shinned) or Cooper Hawk - 4, three Together. California Jay, abt. Coast Jay heard. Flicker, several. In a pine tree near the Greek Theater a fresh hole had been made in a place where a large branch had been sawed off and painted. It was about Twenty feet from the ground. Saw a flicker near it. Willow Woodpecker heard near bridge back of Co-op- Anna Hummingbird near old M.V.Z. building- Allen Hummingbird near Women's Faculty Club. Rufous Hummingbird near Greek Theater. Titmouse - heard near bridge back of Stephens Union Buck-tit - Many pairs, no flocks. One nest back of House hold Arts Building. Wren-tit - Several heard singing. One female seen in Cretaceous bushes on Stadium road. Audubon Warbler - abt. in Eucalyptus trees near Greek Theater. Purple Finch - abt. Singing everywhere. Lunnet - 12-15 in olive tree at Bowles Hall. Brown Towhee - several pairs. Golden-crowned Sparrow - abt. along Stadium road. White-crowned Sparrow (Pugetensis) - one flock near House hold Auto Bldg- Ruthall Sparrow - in full song near Campgrounds. Song Sparrow - in full song, generally distributed. Ruby-crowned Kinglets - several singing.
