1939 Sears Point
Tule Wrens singing everywhere.
We walked out on a pier and from there we
could look down on the birds. Along the Sears
Pt. road birds were not abundant: A few
Least Sandpipers, very few Western (could
find no Redbacks - they may have been at
Valley's but did not fly as the dowitchers
did, showing their white backs and rumps.
Dow. were very muddy. A few Spondbills
were in the pools and some Riddies,
most of them still in winter plumage.
When we came to the Sonoma Creek Bridge
we stopped and there in the last pool were
8 Lesser Yellowlegs, 10-12 Semi-palmated
Plow and one Phalarope. One bittern
seen in flight. Under the bridge were
many Cliff Swallows and a few Barn
Swallows. Willow Goldfinches were
numerous and in full song - 38 of.
On the bay shore (Berkeley) Bluebills and
Canvasbacks were seen.
April 18-21 - Chilly fog most of the time.
There seem to be no birds nesting near
by. To the east of the house. I hear no
chirps at dawn. Also there are no
flocks feeding on the balconies. A few
Purple Finches and an occasional quisco
or a few Golden crowned Sparrows in the
trees and a few Robins picking up worms
on the ground or on the walls.
At noon on April 21 two pairs of
House Wrens came to the big picker
